Alai (author)

Alai阿 来(* 1959 in the district Barkam Autonomous Prefecture Ngawa the Tibetans in the north of Sichuan Province ) is a Tibetan- Chinese writer.

Alai was born in 1959 near Barkam in a Tibetan village. His father was Tibetan, while his mother belonged to the Hui minority. He trained as a Chinese teacher and, after completing his training as a teacher shortly. In 1996 he moved to Chengdu, where he was editor in chief of the magazine "科幻 世界" (Ke -Huan Shijie, Science Fiction World). Alai is married to a Han Chinese.

Alai published his first poem in 1982. Three years later, in 1985, he received a Tibetan literary prize for his poem Zhenxiang ni Xinling de Chibang (English Glide the wings of your heart ). In 1989 he published under the title "旧 年 的 血迹" Jiùnián de Xueji (English Bloodstains of the Bygone Years ), a collection of short stories. He became internationally known, especially after 2000 for his novel "尘埃落定" Chén'āiluòdìng (English Falling Dust, German Red Poppy) had the most prestigious Chinese literary prize, the Mao Dun Prize received.
