Alaior

Alaior ( Alayor Castilian ) is a municipality on the Spanish Balearic island of Menorca.

On 1 January 2013 lived 9769 inhabitants in the municipality, of which in 2008, 7257 in the main town of the same name. Alaior located 12 km from the island's capital, Mahon removed. The highest point of the municipality municipal seat is occupied by the parish church of Santa Eulalia. Son Bou, Sant Jaume and Torre Solí Nou form a cohesive holiday resort on the south coast, where one of the longest sandy beaches of Menorca, of the 2.5 km long Playa de Son Bou is located. A resort further east along the coast is Cala en Porter.

The town of Cales Coves is not on the bay ( this is not inhabited ), but about 1,900 yards inland on the road to the bay ( Caminou de Cales Coves ).

Places of History

In the southwest of the municipality on the beach of Son Bou are the remains of the early Christian basilica of Son Bou.

Nearly seven Kiloemeter east of it on the bay Cales Coves is the necropolis Cales Coves with 90 artificial burial caves from dertalayotischen Bronze Age ( 1200-750 BC) and in the subsequent Iron Age ( 750-123 BC).
