Alalcomenae

Alalkomenai (Greek Ἀλαλκομεναί ) was an ancient Greek city in Boeotia landscape. He lay to the north at the foot of Helicon in the vicinity of the now dry lake Kopais.

The local myth is the namesake of the city either Alalkomeneus, the mythical teacher of the goddess Athena, or Alalkomenia, the daughter of Ogygos, have been. In the course of a creek called Triton (Greek Τρίτων ) was a sanctuary of Athena in Homer already testified Alalkomeneis, which was considered as the birthplace of Athena with the residents Alalkomenais.
