Alavere ( German Allafer ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the Estonian Harju County. It belongs to the rural community Anija. Alavere has 421 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2006).

Alavere was first mentioned in documents in 1241 in Liber Census Daniæ the Danish king Valdemar II. The village was built around Alavere the manor of Allafer ( Alavere mõis ) in the former parish Kosch. It was founded around 1620.

After numerous changes of ownership the estate came in 1772 in the possession of the Baltic German family Löwenstern, 1831 in the ownership of the family Ungern- Sternberg and 1907 to the family of the PAHLEN. Baron Gregor von Ungern- Sternberg in 1852 built the mansion in neo-renaissance style. It was set during the Russian revolution of 1905 on fire and badly damaged, but subsequently rebuilt. After Estonian independence of the owners sold good and mansion, then stood empty. 1938, the manor house was demolished and sold the stones as building material.

Established a school, from 1892 to 1902, the Estonian writer Jacob Mändmets taught at: Already in 1832 Allafer ( Alavere today). During the Soviet time Alavere center was a state farms.
