Albert Gallup

Albert Gallup ( born January 30, 1796 in East Berne, New York, † November 5, 1851 in Providence, Rhode Iceland ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1837 and 1839 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Albert Gallup was born shortly before the end of the 18th century in East Berne. He received a limited education. Gallup studied law. After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice in Albany. Between 1831 and 1834 he was sheriff in Albany County. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1836 for the 25th Congress, he was in the tenth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Gerrit Y. Lansing on March 4, 1837. In 1838 he suffered in his re-election bid a defeat and retired after March 3, 1839, from the Congress of.

President James K. Polk appointed him Collector of Customs in Albany. Gallup passed away on November 5, 1851 in Providence, and was then buried at Swan Point Cemetery.

Family

He married on April 26, 1818 Eunice Smith ( 1799-1872 ), daughter of Priscilla Mitchell ( 1780-1866 ) and Amos Denison Smith ( 1778-1826 ). The couple had seven children together:
