Albert Kwesi Ocran

Albert Kwesi Ocran ( born 1929 ) is a leading military and politicians in Ghana. In the rank of colonel ( Colonel) Orcan commander of the first brigade in Accra and as such played a pivotal role in the coup against Kwame Nkrumah of 24 February 1966.

Coup against Nkrumah

Ocran was after the overthrow of Ghanaian President Nkrumah on 24 February 1966 at the age of only 36 years, member of the Managing Body of the military junta, the National Liberation Council (NLC ). Between the seizure of power and the September 3, 1969 ruling of the National Befreiungsrat (NLC ), the business of government, however, in early September 1969, the Presidential Commission handed in preparation for the transition of the business of government to a civilian government. Ocran was between 3 September 1969, the August 7, 1970 Member of the three-member Presidential Commission and thus alongside John Willie Kofi Harlley and Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa, later Nii Amaa Ollennu one of the most powerful men in Ghana.

Ocran was raised after the handover of power to civilian government in 1969 to the rank of brigadier general and later to the rank of Major General.

Ocran has the presidency of the Ghana Association of Veterans ( Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) ) holds. He went with the rank of lieutenant general from active service.

Others

Ocran belongs to the people of the Fante. He was especially honored in 2006 due to his contribution to Ghana by President Kufuor. The Order of the Star of Ghana, the Ghana's highest civilian medal was awarded Ocran.
