Albert Namatjira

Albert Namatjira ( born July 28, 1902 in Hermannsburg; † August 8, 1959 in Alice Springs ) was an Australian painter and artist from the root of the Arrernte.

1938 Namatjira had his first exhibition in Melbourne, whose exhibits were just like the following in Sydney and Adelaide soon sold out. The next 10 years of his work could continue to increase its visibility. Queen Elizabeth II honored him in 1953 with the Queen's Coronation Medal, and also met him personally in the following year in Canberra.

He painted mostly landscapes and nature. As he got older, he wanted to build a house in Alice Springs. The purchase, however, proved to be difficult because he was a ward of the state as an Aborigine, so he was able to acquire real estate. Due to its high popularity and after there were many protests, were he and his wife in 1957 as the first indigenous people of the Northern Territory, the Australian full civil rights and were able to buy the plot.

When he died in 1959, he left behind a circa 2000 painting comprehensive artistic work.
