Albert Sanschagrin

Albert Sanschagrin OMI (* August 5, 1911 in Saint- Tite in the province of Quebec, Canada; † 2 April 2009) was Bishop of Saint- Hyacinthe.

Life

Albert Sanschagrin occurred on August 1, 1930, the Congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculatae OMI ( Oblates ) at. His philosophical studies he attended from 1931 to 1933 at the School of the Oblates in Richelieu, the theological studies from 1933 to 1937 in Sainte -Agathe -des- Monts ( Laurentides ). He was ordained a priest on May 24, 1936, Bishop Joseph -Eugène Limoges in the church of Sainte -Agathe -des- Monts.

He taught from 1937 to 1939 as a professor of religious sociology in Sainte -Agathe -des- Monts. From 1939 to 1947 he was active in the Young Christian Workers in Montreal. He was also editor of the monthly magazine of the pastors of Catholic Action. In 1947, at the request of the Chilean bishops head of Catholic Action and the Catholic working-class youth in Chile. In parallel, he built the mission of his order on in Chile, Bolivia and Suriname. In 1953 he was appointed Provincial of the Oblates in eastern Canada.

In 1957 he was of Pius XII. appointed Titular Bishop of Bagis and appointed Coadjutor and Auxiliary Bishop in the Diocese of Amos. He received his episcopal consecration on September 14, 1957 in Sacre-Coeur Ottawa Archbishop Giovanni Panico, the Apostolic Delegate to Canada. On 31 October 1959 he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Amos. 1967 Sanschagrin was by Pope Paul VI. appointed the ninth Bishop of the Diocese of Saint- Hyacinthe.

He was an advocate of the Second Vatican Council and was considered a " man of Communication" and the Dean of the bishops in Canada. His resignation was accepted in 1979 by John Paul II.
