Alberto Elli

Alberto Elli ( born March 9, 1964 in Giussano ) is a former Italian cyclist.

The mountain specialist began his career in 1987 as a team Remac - historic Ceremonies. His major achievements include two victories in the Tour de Luxembourg in 1996 and 2000, a success at Grand Prix Midi Libre 1997 and the profit of Milano- Vignola 1993. Moreover, three podium finishes ( he scored at the Italian Championships in 1987 2, 1998 and 1999 3rd ) and a second place finish at the Milan - Sanremo cycling classic in 1997.

At the Tour de France Elli could occupy seventh place in 1994 and in 1998 and 1999, third or second in the mountains classification. In 2000 he conquered after the fourth stage, the yellow jersey, which he wore for four days, the round trip as a helper of Jan Ullrich finished but only on a 84th place overall.

In 2001, Elli has been banned for possession of prohibited substances and used syringes with growth hormones after a raid at the Giro d' Italia for six months and had to pay a fine of 2000 Swiss francs, also in a criminal trial to six months imprisonment with probation and fined sentenced in the amount of 12,000 euros. A further 10,000 euros he had to pay to the Italian Olympic Committee ( CONI ).

Elli ended his active career in 2002 in the Team Index Alexia and is now Athletic supervisor in the team Preti Mangimi.
