Alberto Ongarato

Alberto Ongarato ( born July 24, 1975 in Padua ) is an Italian former racing cyclist.

Alberto Ongarato began his career in 1998 with the cycling team Ballan. In his second year he finished third in the German -day race Around the Henninger Tower. Then he moved to Mobilvetta Design, where he again drove two years. In 2002 he drove for De Nardi and after a year to Domina Vacanze.

After the Giro d' Italia Ongarato was for possession of various illegal substances - banned for six months - NESP, hashish and caffeine.

In 2004, he finally came to Fassa Bortolo, where he mainly worked as Anfahrer for Alessandro Petacchi. But he could also enter stage wins in the Tour of Portugal, the Tour de Luxembourg and the Tour de la Région Wallonne. From 2006 to 2008 Ongarato went for the German - Italian ProTeam Milram.

Ongarato was considered one of the best Anfahrer the world. Therefore, the end of 2008 Alessdandro Petacchi turned into the negotiations with his team leading Ongarato one because he wants to use his services as Anfahrer in claim again - with success, Ongarato was for his team LPR committed.
