Albirex Niigata

Albirex Niigata (Japaneseアルビレックス 新潟, Arubirekkusu Niigata ) is a Japanese football club and since 2004 a member of the J. League Division 1, of the highest professional league in the country. The club plays its home matches at the World Cup Stadium " Big Swan " in Niigata ( Niigata Prefecture ) and is known in Japan, despite previously low sporting success by its large and loyal following.

In many ways, Albirex differs from most competitors in the J. League. First, the association did not emerge as a works team of a large company but from an ordinary football club and is still supported by any national Zaibatsu, but by a consortium of regional SMEs. And for the second, the team from Niigata has been established on the north coast of Honshu one of the few clubs away from the metropolitan areas of Tokyo and Kobe - Osaka - Kyoto.

The " club " is a public company based in Niigata, whose share capital is held by 171 different companies that KK Albirex Niigata (株式会社 アルビレックス 新潟, Kabushiki - gaisha Albirekkusu Niigata ).

History

1955 Albirex Niigata was founded under the name Eleven Soccer Club and played for several decades more or less successfully in regional federation leagues. Between 1986 and 1994, won the regional championship Eleven several times their association, but without making a huge scale nationwide attention.

When it was redesigned in 1993-94, the Japanese club football through the establishment of J. League and Japan Football League ( JFL ), Eleven changed its name to Albireo Niigata. The name comes from astronomy, there Albireo is a star in the constellation of the Swan ( Cygnus in Latin ). After Albireo Niigata was selected as one of the founding members of the J-League Division 2, the club changed its name to Albirex Niigata. The renaming in Albirex said to have been the simpler uttering the name of Albirex. We Also was a white swan named Albi, sometimes referred to as goose, chosen as a mascot and emblem. In 2002, Albi got a mate Swan and the entire family with three children was complete in 2008.

With the rise in the 1996 JFL Albireo first stepped onto the national stage and was due to its solid financial situation in founding the J. League Division 2 1999 preferred athletic teams more successful and included in the J2. At the same time, the club changed names from legal reasons, his name again, this time in Albirex.

The club from the province held surprisingly well in the new league, which may also be related to the above-average participation of the fans ( in Niigata did not compete with a strong baseball club to win the favor of the audience, the club was able to evolve as " pride of the province establish " ). The team has been continuously strengthened and increased consistently in 2003 into the first division.

There, made a misfortune that the bonds between club and people were even closer: When an earthquake in October 2004, large parts of the city and prefecture devastated, the footballers were at the relief operations in the first place - a commitment that has not forgotten the population and Albirex despite sporty average power spectators cuts of about 40,000 per game brings ( league average: 17,000 per game).
