ALEA Ensemble

The ALEA Ensemble is an ensemble for contemporary music from Graz.

History

The ensemble was founded in 1988 by composer and conductor Gerhard gift and his wife Sigrid gift (violin) in Graz for a concert at the Forum Stadtpark. The name originally associated the aleatoric compositional style, but is in later years, for always adapted to the particularly variable instrumentation.

Aim of the ensemble is contemporary music without stylistic reservations - often in relevant combinations with traditional repertoire - closer to the audience. The musicians have produced several CDs, which also found international recognition, so among other things, in the English Strings magazine " The Strad ".

Concerts

The ensemble performs regularly since 1990 - often referred to as ALEA Quartet ( String Quartet ) - and was, among other things at the festivals " Austria today " and " Hörgänge " at the Vienna Konzerthaus, " Nuovi a ple Musicali " in Rome, in the " Music Forum Munich," the " Lutoslawski Festival " in Lublin / Poland, in the " Austrian Cultural Forum " in New York City and in London, at the festival " Carinthian Summer " in the " Styriarte " in Graz, Kunstverein " Alte Schmiede " Vienna, " Forum Stadtpark " and in the concert series "Styrian Musicians covenant" and "the other string " in Graz and in ORF heard.

Cooperation shall, inter alia, with the pianist Rita melem, Edda king, Georg Pammer and Eike Straub, with Berndt McClelland (vibraphone, Jazz Composer ), Alexander Puhrer (baritone ), Jörg - Martin Will Auer ( Actor ), Bertram Egger (clarinet ), Barbara Payer (flute), Christine Kügerl (harp), Krisztina Faludy (bassoon ), and with the composer Iván Eröd (2nd and 3rd string quartet ), Herbert Blendinger (2nd, 3rd and 4th quartet ) and Franz Zebinger.

Occupations

From 1993 to 2009, the ensemble has performed preferably in string quartet (also with additional piano), since 2010 mainly as a String Trio (2 violins and cello), also with possible piano. The current cast consists of Sigrid gift and Igmar Jenner (violin) with Tobias Stosiek (cello ) with optional Rita melem ( piano).
