Herbert Blendinger

Herbert Blendinger ( born January 3, 1936 in Ansbach ) is an Austrian composer and violist German origin.

Life

Blendinger studied viola and composition with Willy Horwath and Max Gebhard at the Conservatory in Nuremberg, then from 1961 to 1963 at the Munich Music Academy with Georg Schmid and Franz Xaver Lehner, additional music education. As a composer, he received suggestions by Paul Hindemith.

His artistic career began in 1961 as principal violist of the Rhenish Chamber Orchestra Cologne. It was followed by engagements with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich, as well as a soloist and in chamber music concerts, among others with the Bamberg Piano Quartet and the Sinnhoffer Quartet. Blendinger taught at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and the University of Music Würzburg. From 1981 until his retirement in 1988 he was professor of viola at the University of Music in Graz. Since then, he has focused on the composition.

Performances

Performances of his works were made, especially in the German-speaking countries, these included, inter alia, World premieres by the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich under Wolfgang Sawallisch ( Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra in 1976, Media in vita 1980 and Divertimento concertante 1985), in the Cathedral and in the Saviour church in Graz (Choral Fantasy, Op 49 (1989 ), cantata calls me sometimes a silence, Op 58 (1992 ), cantata alone those who pray it can still succeed (1995)). The ALEA Ensemble brought his Quartets Nos. 2, 3 and 4 also internationally for performance (Munich, Rome, New York).
