Aleksandr Krupskiy

Alexander Konstantinovich Krupski (Russian Александр Константинович Крупский, English transcription Aleksandr Krupskiy, . Born January 4, 1960 in Irkutsk ) is a retired Russian pole vaulter, who competed for the Soviet Union.

Career

In 1979 he became vice - European Junior Champion of 5.40 m. In the Indoor Athletics Championships 1981 in Grenoble, he finished with 5.65 m second behind the Frenchman Thierry Vigneron 5.75 m. A year later at the European Indoor Championships in Milan, he was 5.55 m in fourth, but was there behind the winner Viktor Spassow with 5.70 m and the runner-up Konstantin Volkov 5.65 m only the third- best finisher from the Soviet Union. At the European Championships in 1982 in Athens was from these three athletes only Krupski at the start. With 5.60 meters, he was European champion ahead of his compatriot Vladimir Polyakov and the Bulgarian Atanas Tarew who jumped 5.60m also, but won because of More Pilot Rule silver and bronze, respectively.

At the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg Krupski won with 5.60 m bronze behind the two Frenchman Thierry Vigneron with 5.85 meters and Pierre quinone 5.75 m. In 1985 at the European Indoor Championships in Piraeus Krupski jumped 5.70 meters as high as the winner Serhiy Bubka, but was due to the more experimental control only the silver medal.

In Soviet Outdoor Championships Krupski won only one medal: In 1981, he was together with Polyakov second behind Spassow. In the hall he was in 1982, 1984 and 1985 Soviet masters.

Krupski is 1,85 m tall and weighed 77 kg in his playing days. In 1982 he was Honored Master of Sports of the USSR. Today he is chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports in the Irkutsk Oblast.
