Aleksandra Ekster

Alexandra Exter Alexandra Alexandrovna Exter ( born January 18, 1882 in Bialystok, † 17 March 1949 in Fontenay -aux -Roses near Paris ) was a Russian painter and art teacher. She designed puppets, costumes, stage sets for theater and film and illustrated a number of books. Her art is influenced by Suprematism, Cubism and Futurism.

Life

Alexandra Exter studied in 1907 at the Art Academy in Kiev, then in 1908 followed by regular study trips to Paris, visiting the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere and Rome. They had contacts with Picasso, Braque, and the art colony La Ruche with Marc Chagall. In Italy she learned the Futurists and Marinetti Soffici know.

In 1912, she moved to St. Petersburg and participated in exhibitions in Russia. By 1914 Can be booked in Kiev, Moscow, Paris, Italy. Beginning of 1914 participate in a Futurist exhibition in Rome. 1915-16 Participation in the exhibition > Tramway V < and 1921 in the exhibition > 5x5 = 25 <. 1916-21 beginning work for the theater with the Ensemble of Alexander Yakovlevich Tairov. In 1918 she had her own studio in Kiev, from which emerged many artists, and employment in textile designs. The First Russian Art Exhibition in Berlin in 1922 showed her painting city, Venice, convention and 11 costume sketches for the Chamber Theatre in Moscow, 6 stage design sketches and a theater decoration model for Romeo and Juliet.

In 1924 she emigrated to France. She lived first in Paris, where she developed some set designs for ballet and worked as a teacher at the Academie d'Art Contemporain of Fernand Léger. From 1928 until her death she lived in Fontenay -aux -Roses. Besides her work in theater, ballet and film, she has had solo exhibitions in Berlin (1927 ), Paris (1929 ) and Prague ( 1937).
