Alessandro d'Ancona

Alessandro D' Ancona ( born February 20, 1835 in Pisa, † November 9, 1914 ) was an Italian literary historian.

Alessandro D' Ancona lived first in Florence and at the age of 18 years, published an extensive biography of Tommaso Campanella. The following year he published an edition of the writings of the Italian philosopher (1854, 2 volumes). 1855-58 he studied law in Turin. On his return to Florence he headed the editorial board of the newspaper La Nazione. Since 1860 he was a professor of Italian literature at Pisa.

D' Ancona has since developed a very fruitful and successful literary activity. He gave many old and rare Italian literary works out new, concerned, inter alia, an annotated edition of the Vita Nuova of Dante. In 1885 he became a corresponding member of the Accademia dei Lincei, 1891 socio nazionale ( Full Member). Since 1898 he was a member of the Accademia della Crusca also in Florence.
