Alex Atala

Milad Alexandre Mack Atala ( born December 9, 1968 in São Paulo) is a chef from Brazil.

Biography

His first career began in his hometown as a DJ. He achieved a certain notoriety in Brazil. After completing his school in 1989 he went to Europe and took a job a few years in Italy, France and Belgium. There he ran out of money and he had to work as painters and decorators. In order to obtain a residence permit, he attended the Hotel School in Namur.

In 1994, his son Pedro is born, he returned to São Paulo and makes a name in the industry soon. He will receive the award discovery of the year the Brazilian Restaurant Association Abredi. In 1999, Atala opened his own two restaurants: the Namesa, a kind of fast food restaurant and its Restaurant DOM Atala combined European cooking techniques with ingredients from the Amazon and the rainforest, such as wild fruits, cassava root or wood ants that taste like lemon grass. The restaurant will soon be voted one of the best restaurants in the world and appreciated by top chefs like René Redzepi of Noma restaurant.

In 2006, elected by the " Restaurant Magazine " as one of the top 50 restaurants in the world the DOM in the ranking of "The World's 50 Best Restaurants ". From 50th place in 2006, climbs to 4th place in 2012 and 2013 is in the list at No. 6

Not far from the DOM Atala opened in 2009 additionally the bistro " Dalva e Dito ".

In 2012 he founded his institute called ATA, sponsored by local small businesses and among other things documented the foods of the Amazon and its culinary heritage to be preserved. In April 2013 was Alex Atala from " Time" magazine included in its " list of 100 most influential people in the world" and is found there under the heading artists next to stars like Steven Spielberg and Christina Aguilera.
