Alex Grey

Alex Grey ( born November 29, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio) is an American artist. He became known through his published in 1986 Sacred Mirrors, a series of 21 life-size representations of people who present with anatomical accuracy human body at various levels, starting with the material plane of the body to a representation of spiritual men pictures; of the external anatomy via the vascular system, nervous system and skeletal bones toward pictorial representations of acupuncture lines, chakras and aura levels. More gained fame Alex Grey by his artistic activity around the progressive metal band Tool.

Life

The son of a graphic designer studied from 1971 to 1973 at the Columbus College of Art and Design. Later he attended the Boston Museum School, where he met his future wife, the artist Allyson Rymland. Together with her, he also gained some experience with drugs. At Harvard Medical School, he worked for five years in the anatomical department, assisted in the preparation of corpses and was thus able to study the human body and its anatomy. This experience enabled him to to make precise anatomical drawings and illustrations.

After that Grey was for ten years professor of anatomical and clay modeling at New York University, today he gives courses in spiritual painting at various institutes of the United States.

He lives with his wife Allyson and their daughter, actress Zena Grey, in New York City.
