Alexander Hume

Alexander Hume (c. 1560; † December 4, 1609 ) was a Scottish poet, clergyman in the Church of Scotland and grammarian.

Hume was born the son of Patrick, 5th Lord Polwarth, and received his education at the Universitas Sancti Andreae and on the European continent. It was intended that he struck a legal career, but he devoted himself of his own accord to the Church and became a minister of Logie in Stirlingshire. In 1599 he published Hymns and Sacred Songs, including the well-known poem Day Estival, which describes a summer day.
