Alexander Macmillan, 2nd Earl of Stockton

Alexander Daniel Alan Macmillan, 2nd Earl of Stockton ( born October 10, 1943 in Oswestry, Shropshire ) is a British politician and member of the Conservative Party.

Political career

After his grandfather Harold Macmillan, 1st Earl of Stockton, died in 1986, he inherited the title of Earl of Stockton, as his father Maurice Victor Macmillan, Viscount Macmillan of Ovenden, had already died in 1984. Macmillan is one of the hereditary peers, who lost her seat in the House of Lords because of the House of Lords Act 1999. Several attempts to obtain one of the seats in elections that are reserved for hereditary peers were unsuccessful. From 1999 to 2004 he sat as a member of the European People's Party for the region South West England in the European Parliament.

In May 2011, Macmillan was elected a member of the District Councils of South Bucks.

Like his father and grandfather, he was also chairman of Macmillan Publishers Ltd. , A publishing house that was long in the possession of the Macmillan family, to Macmillan finally sold it to the German publishing group Georg von Holtzbrinck.
