Earl of Stockton

Earl of Stockton is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, named after the town Stockton, which is supported by the Macmillan family.

Award

The title was conferred on February 24, 1984 to the former British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. It is so far the last hereditary title in the rank of peers, which was awarded to a person who does not belong to the royal family.

Subordinate title

The subordinate title, which was awarded at the same time, Viscount Macmillan of Ovenden, of Chelwood Gate in the County of East Sussex, and of Stockton -on-Tees in the County of Cleveland. This title will be led by the eldest son and heir of the Earl as a courtesy title.
