Alexander Thomson (congressman)

Alexander Thomson ( born January 12, 1788 at Franklin County, Pennsylvania, † August 2, 1848 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1824 and 1826, he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Alexander Thomson received only a limited education. He trained as a sickle -maker. He later moved to Bedford. After studying law and his 1816 was admitted to the bar he began to work in Chambersburg in this profession. He also held several local offices. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic- Republican Party and a deputy in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

Following the resignation of Mr John Thomson 's death was due to the election as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on December 6, 1824. After a re-election, he could remain until his resignation on 1 May 1826 at the Congress. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he was first mayor of the city of Lancaster. Between 1827 and 1841 he was Chief Judge of the 16th Judicial District of the State of. He was also a professor of law at Marshall College in Lancaster. He died on August 2, 1848 in Chambersburg, where he was also buried.
