Alexander Vinnikov

Alexander Aronowitsch Winnikow ( born October 6, 1955 in Krasny Yar, Rajon Polina Ossipenko, Khabarovsk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union ) is a Russian politician and currently governor of the Jewish Autonomous Oblast in the Russian Far East.

Alexander Winnikow comes from a Jewish family in Belarus. His parents came in 1947 at the Jewish Autonomous Region. Winnikow studied until 1977 at the Pedagogical Institute in Khabarovsk. Soon after graduating, he took official positions in the CPSU. He was elected mayor of the capital of the Jewish Autonomous Region of Birobidzhan in 1999. In February 2010, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Winnikow nominated as Governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region.
