Alexandria is a city in the U.S. state of Louisiana, as well as the administrative seat of Rapides Parish. It is located on the banks of the Red River in the center of the state.

The town received its town charter in 1882.

Opened in 1977, Alexandria Museum of Art has an extensive collection of contemporary art from Louisiana.
