Alexis, Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt

Prince Alexis of Bentheim and Steinfurt GCVO ( born November 17 1845 in Steinfurt, † January 21, 1919 ) was a German nobleman, and lieutenant general.

Life

Alexis of Bentheim and Steinfurt was a son of Prince Ludwig zu Bentheim and Steinfurt (1812-1890) and his wife Bertha Princess of Hesse - Philippsthal - Barchfeld ( 1818-1888 ).

He attended high school in Burg Steinfurt and the Rheinische Friedrich- Wilhelms- University of Bonn, where he was a member of Corps Borussia Bonn. In 1866 he became a lieutenant in the Hanoverian Guards Hussar Regiment, 1868, he was transferred to the Hussar Regiment No. 7, was promoted to first lieutenant in 1873, captain in 1875 regiment of Gardes du Corps. In 1884 he resigned as Major over to the officers à la suite of the Army, 1892 Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, 1895, 1899, Major-General. In 1902 he was promoted under award of the uniform of the regiment Gardes du Corps lieutenant general.

In 1890, Alexis came to Bentheim and Steinfurt succeeded his father as head of the royal house. He was a hereditary member of the Prussian House of Lords and the Württemberg Chamber of lords.

In 1881 he married Pauline of Waldeck and Pyrmont. The marriage produced eight children were born. His successor as head of the family was his son Viktor Adolf of Bentheim - Steinfurt ( 1883-1961 ).
