Alfonso III of Aragon

Alfonso III. of Aragon, called the Magnificent (* 1265, † June 18, 1291 in Barcelona), was from 1285 to 1291 King of Aragon.

Alfonso III. was the son of Peter III. and Constance of Sicily. He approved the stands at the Diet of Saragossa in 1287 the so-called union privileges, which the stands, if the King imposed penalties without a court verdict of the national assembly against a stator member, were allowed to choose another master. In order to restore tranquility to the outside, he closed in 1291 to Brignoles France with peace, but soon died childless, leaving his brother James II to the throne.
