Alfonso Mistrangelo

Alfonso Maria Cardinal Mistrangelo SCHP ( born April 26, 1852 in Savona, † November 7, 1930 in Florence) was Archbishop of Florence.

Life

Mistrangelo was received Confirmation on May 17, 1859. He entered the seminary of Savona and thereafter on October 23, 1870 in Liguria member of the Piarist. He put 1871 its easy in 1874 his perpetual vows. On 13 May 1875 he was a subdeacon, on 18 July of the same year deacon. On March 17, 1877 he was ordained a priest. He taught at the School of Piaristen in Final Borgo, Carcare and Ovada. In 1880 he became principal of the school.

On January 16, 1893, he was called by Pope Leo XIII. appointed Bishop of Pontremoli. He was consecrated on 11 May of the year by Cardinal Lucido Parocchi, Archbishop Antonio Grasselli and Bishop Luigi Canestrari in San Pantaleon.

On 19 June 1899 he was appointed Archbishop of Florence and worked at the same time from 1900 to 1904 as chief of the General Piaristen. Pope Benedict XV. took him on 6 December 1915 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria degli Angeli to the College of Cardinals. Mistrangelo participated in the conclave of 1922, Pope Pius XI. chose. His grave can be found in the cemetery of Soffiano.
