Alfred Edward Taylor

Alfred Edward Taylor ( born December 22, 1869 in Oundle, † October 31, 1945 in Edinburgh ) was a British moral philosopher.

Taylor taught from 1896 to 1903 Greek and philosophy at the University of Manchester. In 1903 he took over the Frothingham Professor at McGill University in Montreal in 1908, he moved to the Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St Andrews. From 1924 to 1944 he taught at the University of Edinburgh.

He was regarded as a profound knowledge of Plato and Aristotle. Taylor has received numerous awards and honorary doctorates; In 1911 he became an honorary member of the British Academy. From 1928 to 1929 he was president of the Aristotelian Society.

In his memory, has been held since 1995-1996 at the University of Edinburgh each year a guest lecture on ancient philosophy instead.
