Alfredo Ovando Candía

Alfredo Ovando Candía ( born April 6, 1918 † January 24, 1982 in La Paz ) was a Bolivian military and de facto president.

Life

In 1932 he volunteered in the Chaco War. He was a member of the founded in Oruro by José Antonio Arze y Arze 1940 Partido de Izquierda Revolucionaria ( PIR).

From 26 May 1965 to January 2, 1966, he led a co-presidency as commander in chief René Barrientos Ortuño with. The Argentine General Alejandro Agustín Lanusse brought commander General Rogelio Miranda money with this on October 6, 1970, took a coup attempt. The arbitration award of the Catholic Church stipulated that Bolivia should be governed by a junta of commanders of the three armed forces. The generals Efraín Guachalla ( Ejército ), Armando Fernando Sattori ( Fuerza Aérea ) and Rear Admiral Alberto Albarracin ( Fuerza Naval Boliviana Montanosa ) were sworn on a constitution that did not provide for this form of government, and remained six hours in office. Efraín Guachalla had been drinking alcohol against stage fright and was the reading of the Government's statement not on TV. General Armando Sattori resigned in shame and resulted in the Air Force Base El Alto Juan José Torres González, who led the fight against the junta.

Alfredo Ovando Candia found in the Argentine Embassy asylum. From October 7, 1970 to August 21, 1971, he was the ambassador of Juan Torres Gonzales with Francisco Franco.
