Alfredo Viejo Sánchez

Alfredo " Viejo " Sánchez ( * in Orizaba, Veracruz ) was a Mexican footballer, who played all the games of the Mexican national team in the 1930 World Cup.

Association

Sánchez began his football career in 1929 in Orizaba and moved the capital to Club América. There he became one of the most reliable defender in the history of Club América. Sánchez was considered one of the most complete Mexican soccer player of all time and was a total of 15 years active as a football player, most of the time thereof for Club America. After his playing career, he worked as a coach.

National

Sánchez was part of the contingent of Mexico to the Football World Cup 1930, where he completed his international debut against France (1:4) on July 13. Also in the following matches against Chile ( 0-3 ) and Argentina ( 3:6 ) came Sánchez over the full distance to use. His tenth and last international match played Sánchez on February 22, 1938 against Costa Rica ( 2-1 ) in the Central American and Caribbean Football Championship of 1938 in Panama, Mexico won with one point ahead of Costa Rica.
