Alisa Marić

Alisa Marić (Serbian Cyrillic - Алиса Марић; born January 10, 1970 in New York) is a Serbian chess grandmaster and politician.

Maric grew up in a Serbian family of mathematicians. Her father Nebojsa worked in New York at the UN and is a university professor, and her mother was a teacher at a middle school. In her youth, she learned together with her twin sister Mirjana chess. From a young age Alisa was one of the most successful female chess players in the history of the Serbian chess. As a 12 -year-old, she won the Women's Championship of Belgrade and received the female champion title awarded. Thus, she became the youngest champion of the Serbian chess sport. In 1985, she finished behind Ketevan Arachamia second place at the Junior World Championships in Dobrna.

As a 16 -year-old, she won the Women's Championship of Yugoslavia and played at the Chess Olympiad in 1986 in Dubai for the first time for the national team.

At age 18, she was already Grand Master ( pictured right) and won the bronze medal with her team at the Chess Olympiad in Thessaloniki.

Her sister, a mathematician, in 1985 Cadet World Champion ( U16 ) and later also Grand Master. The sisters Marić are the only twins in the history of chess, who won the Grand Masters title. Alisa Marić also carries the title of International Master of men.

At the Chess Olympiad in Elista in 1998 she won the bronze medal for her individual result at the first board. Overall, they played until 2008 at 10 Chess Olympiads, scoring 72 points out of 121 games.

Her biggest success, and also that of the Serbian women's chess sport at all, she managed the candidates tournament in 1990 in Borjomi, Georgia, as they place one shared in common with the Chinese Xie Jun ( 4.5 from 7), it is a result of 3, 5:0.5 succeeded against the participating four Soviet players. After 13 years of Soviet domination succeeded thus two other players to fight for the world championship. The top two teams played in 1991 in Belgrade and Beijing at the Women's World Cup. Marić Xie Jun defeated after a dramatic battle with 2,5:4,5 ( 1, -3, = 3) and took after the race in third place in the world rankings of women. In the Women's World Championship 2000 in New Delhi she got to the semifinals, where she failed to 0.5:1.5 to Qin Kanying. A year later in Moscow, she lost in the third round against world champion Zhu Chen later with 1:3. She plays for the club Agrouniverzal Belgrade, which in 1996, 2000 and 2001, the European Club Cup won.

In 2001, she submitted her thesis at the University of Economics in Belgrade. Since 2003 she has worked as an assistant at the private management university " Braća Karic " in Belgrade in the subject " Principles of Marketing ", where she wrote her thesis on the influence of the internet on sports marketing. In 2008 she received an assistant professorship at the University megatrend. She is a member of the Olympic Committee of Serbia. In the Serbian private channel "TV Politika " she also runs a program called " Alisa in chess country."

Alisa Maric's Elo rating is 2387 (as of March 2013), but is considered as inactive because they did not play Elo -evaluated lot more since the European Team Championships 2009 in Novi Sad. Your best Elo rating was 2489 in July 1999.

Since July 2012, the non-party Alisa Marić heard as Minister of Youth and Sports of the Serbian government under Prime Minister Ivica Dacic.
