Allan Bell

Allan Robert Bell ( born June 20, 1947 the Isle of Man) is a British politician, he is since 2011 Chief Minister of the Isle of Man and at the same time a member of the House of Keys for Ramsey.

Life

Allan Bell was born on the Isle of Man and visited the Ramsay Grammar School. Prior to his political career, he worked in banking, accounting and retail.

Policy

Bell ran unsuccessfully in 1976 for a seat in the House of Keys, the lower house of the Parliament of the Isle of Man. Since 1984, when he was first elected in a by-election, he is one of the two elected representatives from Ramsey in the House of Keys.

Since 1986 he is a member of the government. He had the following cabinet posts held: 1986-1990 Minister of Tourism and Transport, 1990-1994 Minister of Tourism, Leisure and Transport, 1991-1996 Minister of Industry, Minister of the Interior 1996-2001, 2001-2010 and finally 2010-2011 Finance Minister of Economic Development.

Following the resignation of Chief Minister Tony Brown Bell was elected on October 11, 2011 as his successor. Bell received 27 votes, his rival candidate Peter Karran, Chairman of the Liberal Vannin Party, received three votes.
