It was those coalition (formerly Malaya) prepared the independence of Malaysia from Britain in August 1957.

Formation

The Alliance Party evolved from a pact between the guided by Tunku Abdul Rahman UMNO ( United Malays National Organization ) and the Malaysian Chinese Association (formerly Malayan Chinese Association, MCA ). The aim was to discourage independent in 1952 in the Greater Kuala Lumpur elections. The Alliance Party was here competing in the Independence of Malaya Party (IMP ) and fought over the appropriate structure for a communal society divided, as it represented Malaya at that time. The parties United Malays National Organisation and Malaysian Chinese Association formed a coalition to prevent a victory for the Independence of Malaya Party in Kuala Lumpur in February 1952. In March 1953, this cooperation was confirmed by the leaders of the two parties and transferred to the state level. The Alliance has been enhanced by the accession of the Malaysian Indian Congress in 1954.

The Alliance called for early independence after the British General Sir Gerald Templer began to push back the communist rebels and the first " white zone " in Malacca einrichtete. Britain made for independence on condition that the ethnic groups of Malays, Chinese and Indians together would find a common political organization.

Road to Independence

The British were the opposite coalition suspicious at first, but the fact were aware that there was no better alternative to it; Sir Donald MacGillivray reached in July 1954 a compromise with the Alliance on the composition of the Bundesrat and put on makeup -related requirements of the Alliance in 1954 by MacGillivray through. In the 1955 election the Alliance gained a landslide victory and formed a government under Abdul Rahman.

By the end of 1955, the Alliance seemed to have met all the demands of the British, who made this about prerequisites for independence: bridging ethnic differences, the support of the voters in the elections in June 1955 and refusal of concessions in talks with Chin Peng in December. In 1955, when the first nationwide elections took place, the pact by the Malaysian Indian Congress ( Malayan Indian Congress, MIC) had been extended. The Alliance Party won 51 of 52 seats and thus proved to be legitimized, the independence of Malaya from Britain to negotiate.

In January and February 1956, the British government in London took the designed by the Alliance timetable for independence at the end of August 1957. For the Alliance accepted the need for the presence of the British after independence for the defense and economic development of the country. In the next 18 months there have been negotiations in which it came to financial aspects of independence, cooperation in defense, the balance between privileges for Malays and rights for other population groups and between the autonomy of the states and the central government in the Constitution.

The Alliance Party remained in power even after the extended coalition Federation of Malaysia was formed in September 1963. In June 1974, she went on in the larger Barisan Nasional, which is based on the same policy model and their core party to make them. Successor to the Alliance Party is today the Barisan Nasional, which has been formally registered on 1 June 1974 as a political party.
