Alltel

Alltel is an American telecommunications company headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is active in both the mobile and fixed networks. The landline business but is not currently split off and merged with Valor Communications Group.

After Cingular, Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel and T -Mobile Alltel is in terms of subscribers the fifth largest mobile operator in the United States, but operates the geographically largest network. In contrast to these companies Alltel is after the acquisition of Western Wireless and Midwest Wireless in 2005 focused more on the coverage of rural areas and the business of national roaming. On 9 January 2009, the FCC approved the acquisition of Alltel by Verizon Wireless. The last Alltel store closed its doors on October 16, 2009.
