Alma redemptoris mater

Alma Redemptoris Mater ( Blessed Mother of the Redeemer ) is the Marian antiphon is sung in the Liturgy of the Hours of the Catholic Church during the Advent and Christmas season either after Vespers or Compline, depending on which is the last of these two Horen, which in Community is celebrated.

Named the antiphon after the first three words of the Latin text, which was written before 1054 by Hermann of Reichenau, a Benedictine Abbey of Reichenau.

The text reads:

Alma Redemptoris Mater, quae Pervia caeli porta manes, stella maris et, succurre cadenti, surgere qui curat, populo: tu quae genuisti, natura mirante, tuum sanctum Genitorem, Virgo prius ac posterior, Gabrieli from ore, sumens illud Ave, peccatorum miserere.

Loving Mother of the Redeemer, You are always open gate of heaven and Star of the Sea, Come, help thy people, that strives to get up from the trap. You bore the wonderment of nature, your Creator. you, O virgin before and after, from Gabriel's mouth vernahmst the blissful Ave, o mercy of sinners.

In praise of God the Latin antiphon is printed under number 666, 1. In addition, in paragraph 530 ( GLalt 577 ) is a German -language song paraphrase of Franz Josef Weinzierl (1816 ), in an arrangement by Maria Luise Thurmair (1969 ), included with the title " Mary, Mother of our Lord ."
