Aloe buettneri

Aloe buettneri is a plant of the genus of aloes in the subfamily Asphodelus ( Asphodeloideae ). The specific epithet honors the German botanist buettneri Oskar Richard Alexander Büttner, who led a research station in Togo from 1890 to 1891.

Description

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe buettneri growing stemless, is rarely simple or branched from the base and then form small groups. Your base is increased towards the end of the growing season and forms an onion. The ten triangular leaves form rosettes and die off during the dry season usually. The green, indistinct lined leaf blade is 35 to 55 inches long and 5 to 15 inches wide. On it are sometimes a few scattered whitish spots. The leaf surface is smooth. The very narrow leaf margin is white to light pink and cartilaginous. The fixed teeth on the leaf margin are 3-4 millimeters long and are 10 to 15 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence consists of three to five branches and reaches a length of 70 to 90 centimeters. The fairly dense, cylindrical-conical to almost capitate grapes are 15 inches long and 7 inches wide. The deltoid - lanceolate acute or pointed bracts have a length of 10 to 15 mm and 6-8 mm wide. The greenish yellow to dull red flowers stand at 20 to 25 mm long pedicles. The flowers are 38 mm long and rounded at their base. At the level of the ovary, the petals have a diameter 9-11 mm. Furthermore, they are narrowed to between 6 and 8 mm, then increased to 9 to 11 millimeters and then narrows again to the mouth. Your outer tepals are fused together on a length of 12 to 13 millimeters. The stamens and the style protrude up to 1 millimeter from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe buettneri is common in Benin, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Togo on grassland and woodland Svannen - up to altitudes of 1800 meters.
