Alojzij Šuštar

Alojzij Šuštar ( in German-speaking Alois Sustar; born November 14, 1920 in Grmada, Občina Trebnje, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, † 29 June 2007 in Ljubljana) was from 1980 to 1997 Archbishop of Ljubljana.

Life

Alojzij Šuštar received in 1946 was ordained a priest. After his studies he was awarded his doctorate in 1949 in Rome. Because of his poor health, a return to his Slovenian- Yugoslav homeland was not possible at first; He spent since the late 1940s, a longer break here in Davos. Later, he was working as a counselor in the bishopric of Chur; In 1949 he was appointed by Bishop Christian Caminada as vicar in St. Moritz. From 1951 Šuštar was a teacher of philosophy and religion at the College Maria Hilf in Schwyz, from 1959 to 1963 as the Spiritual.

In 1963 he succeeded Franz Böckle as professor of moral theology at the seminary of St. Lucius (today Theological College Chur), where he was also rain from 1965 to 1968. He was appointed Episcopal Vicar of the Diocese of Chur 1968.
