Aloys Thomas Raimund, Count Harrach

Aloys Thomas Raimund Count Harrach ( born March 7, 1669 Vienna, † November 7, 1742 ) was an Austrian statesman, diplomat and a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece.

Life

Aloys von Harrach was descended from the noble Harrach, his father was Ferdinand Bonaventura I Count Harrach. He was an envoy of the Emperor in 1694 in Dresden, served from 1697 to 1700 in the same capacity in Spain and in 1711 was again in Dresden, and afterwards in Berlin and Hanover on diplomatic missions. From 1715 to 1742 he served as District Marshal in Lower Austria, from 1728 to 1733 as viceroy in Naples, where he acquired many works of art that are exhibited in the gallery in Rohrau. From 1734 until his death, was Count Harrach member of the Secret State Conference in Vienna.

As a major client he committed several times the architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt, for lock Prugg in Bruck an der Leitha, for the Palais Harrach in the Hungarian in Vienna.

Family

He was married since April 22, 1691 with Marie Barbara von Sternberg († 1694/95 ). They had five children:

Alois Thomas Raimund married his second wife Anna Cecilia of Thannhausen (* March 14, 1674, † February 15, 1721 ). They had ten children:

  • Johann Ernst Emanuel Joseph, Bishop of Neutra ( April 9, 1705 *, † December 17, 1739 in Rome)
  • Leopold Joseph Jacob, (* April 27, 1706, † May 13 1706 )
  • Franz Joseph Anton Johann, (* March 8, 1707; † July 27, 1707 )
  • Ferdinand Bonaventura (* April 11, 1708; † January 28, 1778 )

In 1721 he married his third wife Ernestine Countess of Dietrichsteinplatz (* July 13, 1683; † January 30 1744 ) Widow of Johann Wenzel von Gallas. The marriage remained childless.
