Alpha Blondy

Alpha Blondy, Seydou Koné actually, ( born January 1, 1953 in Dimbokro, Ivory Coast ) is one with his band solar system to the most successful reggae bands in West Africa.

Life

Alpha Blondy is from the people of the Jula. During his school years, he formed his first band Atomic Vibrations.

Since moving to Liberia he sings mostly in English. He traveled in 1976 to the United States where he studied at New York's Columbia University business and English. He had his first gigs in New York with the reggae band Monyaka. After Alpha Blondy was produced in the late 1970s with a Jamaican producer six titles, this disappeared with the bands, after which Alpha Blondy suffered a nervous breakdown.

After his return to Abidjan in 1981 he was sent by his parents for two years in a mental hospital. In 1983, he took along with musicians from Ghana, his first album, Jah Glory, on and won within the first year three gold records for it. In 1985, he joined the first time in Europe. His music could be described as pop -compatible Afro - reggae, with unique African, European and Caribbean influences. His recent works are based increasingly on roots reggae.

The album Jerusalem represents a milestone in his musical career, it was produced together with the Wailers at Tuff Gong. Alpha Blondy sings his lyrics in Hebrew, English, French, Arabic, and in some West African languages ​​(such as Baule and Diula ). Also noteworthy is that he always has a Star of David, a Bible and a Koran leads to his tours with them.
