Alphonse Borrelly

Alphonse Louis Nicolas Borrelly ( born December 8, 1842 in Roquemaure at Nîmes, † February 28, 1926 ) was a French astronomer.

Borrelly entered 1864 as an assistant at the Observatory of Marseilles. Until 1919 he worked as a professional astronomer.

With the comet finder of the observatory, which had an opening width of 18 cm, Borrelly discovered 20 asteroids, 18 comets ( including the short-period 19P/Borrelly ) and 6 galaxies that were included in the NGC.

In 1913 he was awarded the Jules Janssen Award. To him, the asteroid ( 1539) Borrelly was named in honor.
