Alpsee

The Alpsee is a 1.9 km long lake with a circumference of 4.70 km in Bavaria. It is located in the district in Eastern Allgau Swabia two kilometers southeast of Fussen in the municipality of Schwangau and 450 meters from the Austrian border, near the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau right at the foot of the mountain Säuling. 400 meters north of the Alp lake is the smaller swan lake.

The Alpsee is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Germany. Today it is in the summer by both locals and tourists for bathing in the specially created Bathhouse ( Alpseebad, on the south bank ), used in winter especially for skating. In summer, a boat house is open, can be borrowed on the boats for rowing on the lake.

The lake is owned by the Free State of Bavaria, Wittelsbach Compensation Fund is tenant of the lake.

Opened in late 2011 Museum of the Bavarian kings is located on the Alpsee.
