Altnaharra

Altnaharra ( gäl.: Allt na h- Eirbhe ) is a hamlet in the county of Sutherland in the northern Scottish Highland region. It lies on the A836 trunk road at the top end of Loch Naver. The nearest villages are Lairg and Tongue.

Known is the small town of which opened in 1820, and very exclusive Altnaharra hotel which is popular with hunters, anglers and climbers as well as for the weather station of the Met Office. Here, the lowest temperature ever measured in the United Kingdom on 30 December 1995 -27.2 ° C. This cold record Altnaharra shares with Braemar, which on February 11, 1895 at January 10, 1982 had the same temperature.
