Altoona is a city in Eau Claire County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. According to the census in 2009 the population was 6819th Altoona has a station on the Union Pacific Railroad.

History

The colonization of Altoona began in 1881 as Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway chose the location for a new station to relieve the congested station of Eau Claire. The first residents moved in May 1882 in the place, and in May of the same year the station was put into operation.

Demography

According to the census of 2000 the town had 6698 inhabitants, distributed among 2844 households. The population density was 1638.6 people per km ². The population is made up to 95.89 % White, and the rest from other ethnic groups.
