Altstadt- Lehel (pronounced Lächl ) is the city of District 1 of the Bavarian capital Munich. It consists of the districts of Altstadt and Lehel.
Location
The municipality includes firstly the historic old town and the other is the Lehel, which adjoins the north-east of the old town.
The boundary of the old town is essentially formed by the Old Town Square. Exceptions are in the north, the course Galeriestrasse - Briennerstraße and to the southeast stretch of road Müllerstraße - Rumfordstraße.
The Lehel is bounded by the river Isar in the East and Queen Street in the west and the Tivoli Street to the north and Zweibrückenstraße in the south. In the southwest of the old town ring forms the border of the Old Town. Also, the northern part of the Museum Island and the Praterinsel belong to Lehel.
Subdivision
The municipality Altstadt-Lehel comprises two districts of Munich:
- The old town, which corresponds to the historic city center, which was surrounded in the Middle Ages by the Munich city fortifications, and
- The Lehel, which belonged since the Middle Ages to the Munich truce and is therefore often referred to as the " oldest suburb " of Munich.
For the administrative and statistical purposes of the District Altstadt -Lehel district is divided into six parts, but are based on the historic districts.
The first four parts of the district are similar to the historic neighborhoods of Old Town
