Alvin Colt

Alvin Colt ( born July 5, 1916 in Louisville, Kentucky; † 4 May, 2008 New York) was an American costume designer. He worked over 60 years on Broadway and designed the costumes for more than 50 pieces. Colt has won several awards.

Biography

Colt lost his parents at a young age and grew up with his brother. At Yale, he studied design but never reached his Bachelor. After he had abandoned their studies, he moved to New York where he worked for several theater and ballet companies. There he discovered his love of costumes. Alvin Colts first work in this area was for the musical On the Town, which was also the debut of Leonard Bernstein.

He won the 1955 American Tony Award for the musical Pipe Dream. In addition, he was nominated several times for the price. He was also known for his costumes for the revue Forbidden Broadway, which ran for 15 years.

Although he worked mostly for the theater, some TV productions appeared with his costumes. He designed, inter alia, the dresses for the 1976 series The Addams Family.

He last worked in 2001 on the costumes for If you ever leave me ... I'm going with you!. In the same year he was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame.
