Alvin R. Dyer

Alvin Rulon Dyer ( born January 1, 1903 in Salt Lake City, Utah; † March 6, 1977 ) was an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints and held various church offices as such.

Life

Dyer grew up in a family of thirteen children. He attended West High School in Salt Lake City. From 1922 to 1924 he was a missionary in the Eastern States Mission. After his return to Utsh, got Dyer, who was a talented baseball player during high school, the opportunity to start a professional baseball playing career. He refused, however, to continue to press church. Dyer attended courses in mechanical engineering and has worked in the air conditioning industry. Among other things, he was from 1934 to 1949 manager of the relevant department of the Utah Builders Supply, and then founded his own company. Later he became head of the Central States Mission to his Church. In October 1958 he was appointed Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. This he remained until his appointment to the Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in October 1967. In April 1968 he was appointed by President David O. McKay 's counsel of the First Presidency. When the First Presidency was dissolved with McKay's death in 1970, Dyer was again Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. In October 1976, this office was abolished and Dyer was a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy.

Dyer was married and had two children, a son and a daughter.
