Älvsbyn

Älvsbyn is a place in the Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Norrbotten. It lies on the River Pite River to the state road 94 and on the railway line Stockholm - ground. Älvsbyn has 5176 inhabitants ( 2000). Älvsbyn is also the capital of the municipality of the same name.

Älvsbyn has evolved in recent years into a tourist resort offers recreational activities from rafting to skydiving. The place has a youth hostel with a small amusement park on the same site. 40 km northwest of the town is the waterfall Storforsens. Not far from Älvsbyn motorsport race track located Höghedenbanan (also called Älvsbyns motor Stadium ) on which under the leadership of Älvsbyns Motorsällskap ( Älvsbyns MS) Rallycross races are annually extended.
