Amadeo's theatre

Amadeo Theatre (Croatian: Amadéovo kazalište ) was in Zagreb, Croatia founded in 1797 and existed until 1834, it was named after its founder Anton de Várkony Amade, a Hungarian count and big prefect of Zagreb.. Amadeo's theater was located in the former Blatna and Kazalisna road to Demetrova renamed later. The building in which it was located, is now the Croatian Natural History Museum and since 2000 the home of Amadeo - theater and music company. Amadeo's theater was a public theater, which was leased by its owner to a third party - the director of the theater group with the highest offer. Posters, cards, announcements and advertisements were printed for theater performances and other events. Therefore applies Amadeo's theater as the first public theater in Zagreb.

Language of the performances

It first plays were mainly performed in German language, to a lesser extent also in Latin. In 1832 and 1833 German actor resulted in Amadeo's theater on the first public and professional presentation in Kajkavian dialect of Croatian. Dragutin Rakovac (1813-1854) translated two comedies by August von Kotzebue on Kajkavisch. Joseph Schweigert, director and actor of a German group, which occurred at the theater at the time, led to the following pieces:

  • October 2, 1832: Ztari mladosenja i kosharice ( Kotzebue )
  • January 28, 1833: Vkanjeni Vkanitel ( Florijan )
  • July 23, 1833: Ztari zaszebni kuchish Petra III ( Kotzebue )

Repertoire

In Amadeo's theater is common in the former Austrian province of German repertoire was offered: dramas, operas, ballets and a special kind of simple pieces vocal sections, which developed in an operetta called Singspiel later. At the beginning of the 19th century the appearance of writers of the Vienna Circle was more common, marking the beginning of the Viennese popular theater labeled with their works, without which the idea of the creation of the Croatian national theater would be impossible.

In the Croatian theater history Amadeo's theater had a primarily educational role.
