Amadou Karim Gaye

Amadou Karim Gaye (born 8 November 1913 in Saint -Louis, Senegal; † 2 October 2000) was a Senegalese politician.

Biography

Amadou Karim Gaye, a Muslim from the people of the Wolof, studied after attending the primary school and the Lycée Saint -Louis 1935-1940 medicine at the University of Paris and graduated from this laureate of the Medical Faculty. From 1941 to 1945 he studied at the National Veterinary School ( École nationale d' Alfort vétérinaire ) and finished it first with a Diploma of the Institute of exotic veterinary medicine. After his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine ( Dr. med. ) He joined in 1946 the cavalry of the French armed forces and, after completion of the Cavalry School ( Ecole de cavalry ) promoted to captain of the reserve in Saumur in 1948.

After his return to Senegal, he was from 1949 to 1957 employees of the veterinary service as Director of Administration for livestock. From 1949 to 1952 he was also General of Senegal.

In January 1959, Dr. Gaye was appointed Minister of National Education and Culture in the government of Mamadou Dia.

After the sovereignty of Senegal from France on August 20, 1960, he was appointed Minister for Planning, Development and Technical Cooperation in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Dia. As part of a government reshuffle In 1961 he was first minister for support and technical cooperation and in 1962 briefly Minister of Civil Service and Labour.

After the abolition of the Office of the Prime Minister, he was 1962-1965 first Minister for Rural Economy in the government of President Leopold Sedar Senghor. After a cabinet reshuffle, he was in 1965 Minister for the Armed Forces as well as Foreign Minister in June 1968. This office he retained even after the re-establishment of the Office of the Prime Minister on 26 February 1970 at the Cabinet of Abdou Diouf until June 1972.

In 1975, he was finally in place of Hassan al - Touhami General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC ). In this role, he was at December 23, 1976 co-signatories of the Treaty of Tripoli between the Philippines and the Moro National Liberation Front ( MNLF ), which provided for the establishment of an autonomous region for the people of the Moros in the Philippines. His son Babacar Gaye is lieutenant general and commander of the troops since 2005, the Mission de l' Organisation des Nations Unies en République Démocratique du Congo (MONUC ).
