Amalia Ferraris

Amalia Ferraris (* 1830 in Voghera ( Lombardia), † April 1, 1904 in Vienna) was Italian dancer.

The age of 14 could debut at La Scala in Milan Amalia Ferraris 1844. After a few years Ferraris took an engagement at the Teatro San Carlo and went for a few years to Naples.

After several engagements at various theaters in London (1853 ), Rome ( 1854) and Vienna ( 1855) came Ferraris in the spring of 1856 at the Paris Opera. There are numerous ballets were composed especially for them. Ferraris was therefore one of the major competitors of Carolina Rosati.

Among her greatest successes counted Iberia. In this role, the sculptor Pietro Gavazzi created in 1854 in Rome a statue of Ferraris.

Among her recent triumphs was the star of Messina during her guest performance in Brussels in 1864. Followed some minor roles, and soon after she retired from the stage.

At the age of about 74 years, the dancer and ballerina Amalia Ferraris died on April 1, 1904 in Vienna.
